William Fraser Tolmie: A Physician in the Pacific Northwest is a digital history project which seeks to bring together and present information on the life of William Fraser Tolmie, a Scottish physician, fur trader, amateur botanist, and settler who came to the Pacific Northwest after being employed by the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1833. Through the incorporation of interactive media, this project seeks to make Tolmie’s life tangible to visitors, thereby facilitating understanding of broader trends in the British Empire and, more specifically, in the Pacific Northwest.
